http://www.moranprizes.com.au/portrait.phpCLOSING DATE:31 January 2008PRIZE: Best Work Prize: $100,000Richest portrait prize in the world...The Moran Health Care Group Pty Ltd (“Moran”) invites artists to submit portraits in competition for the annual Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (“DMNPP”). Entry conditions for the competition stipulate that both the artist and their subject be Australian residents or citizens, but it is not required that the artist’s subjects be in any way well known. Portraits that reveal a deep connection between the artist and their subject will be well received by the judges. The exhibition of finalists is held initially at The State Library of New South Wales from 10 March 2008 until 4 May 2008 and then around Australia in a subsequent touring exhibition.The exhibition of finalists held at The State Library of New South Wales generates a vibrant and eclectic collection of 30 portrait paintings depicting the diversity of Australian society.There is a $50 fee per entry which is payable via cheque, money order or postal note. Each entrant may submit up to 5 entries. THINGS TO NOTE:The DMNPP is an acquisitive prize, which means that the winning portrait will automatically become the property of Moran. The prize money awarded includes Moran’s acquisition of the portrait.The portrait should be:- of the head and all or part of the subject;- painted from life, partly in front of the sitter;- painted in oils, acrylics egg tempera, watercolour or mixed media;- essentially two dimensional, with a suitably prepared surface;- a maximum size of 3 metres high by 3 metres wide (including frame size); and- an original, unaided work painted and owned by the artist.The portrait forming an entry must have been finished within the 12 months immediately prior to 7 February 2007.
