The MCPP promotes contemporary photography and excellence in photo-based work, including all types of analogue and digital photography. Images can be either colour or black and white. Entrants to the MCPP are asked to interpret “Contemporary Life in Australia” with an emphasis on images of Australians going about their day-to-day lives within their environment. Images that reveal a deep connection between the photographer and their subject(s) will be well received by the judges. There are two sections in the MCPP – an Open Section and a Schools Section. The total prize money to be awarded is $100,000, comprising $60,000 in the Open Section and $40,000 in the Schools Section. The two sections will be clearly delineated from each other in terms of an exhibition to be held at The State Library of New South Wales from 12 March 2007 until 6 May 2007 and a subsequent touring exhibition.
